"UNTIL A PERSON HAS LOVED AN ANIMAL, A PART OF ONE'S SOUL REMAINS UNAWAKENED." Quote by Anatole France.

Wolf was the typical result of horrific puppy mill conditions. Severe hip dysplasia as a young puppy, you name it, she had it. But that never stopped her from being the sweetest creature ever to walk the earth....as a puppy she would steal everything she saw and bring it out to the pen and rip it to shreds!  Whenever we couldn't find something we ran to the pen and there it was in a million pieces.  As she got older all that stopped and she became known as the dog who "never did anything wrong," yet she loved it when Timber or Sandi were scolded for something that they had done!  She was very funny, very close to "talking"... she never took a liking to playing with dog toys or chewy things, she just liked FOOD, period!  When she would see another animal she would make this funny noise that sounded like 'hee haw' or 'oink oink'...i swear that sometimes she would do it pretending that an animal or a dog was coming down the road, just to see Timber run to the fence and get all flustered about it!  Wolf was a loner, she would lay outside on the deck in her own little world while the rest of us were inside...until she heard the sound of food.   There are so many wonderful and funny memories of Wolf....I guess it's her funny personality that we will remember the most.

What started out as an ordinary blood test on Dec. 8th of 2009, turned into something not so ordinary. The results came back and showed she needed immediate attention to check her blood platelet levels. Wolf was rushed to the emergency hospital Dec. 13th, and ended up staying about four days. We (and our entire extended family) visited her every night during visiting hours, we even brought Timber to visit her one night. We spoke with her doctors several times each day for updates. Her blood levels were of great concern. Levels that should have been above 150,000, were below 20,000, and getting lower. Through all of this Wolf looked like nothing was wrong, we would have never known something was wrong unless we had the blood test. After much research we did learn however, that we would have found her dead in a puddle of blood at home that week if we had not brought her to the hospital. This is what Wolf had: (Click) Canine Autoimmune Hemolytic Anemia. After a week in ICU her platelet levels finally came back (above 50,000) so she was discharged to come home. Dec. 16th, This was a very joyful day for all of us, Wolf was coming home!

The whole time she was at the hospital, she was always top priority, and on our minds. It was great to have Wolf back home again, especially in time to see her and Timber unwrap their denta-bones for Christmas.  Dec. 23rd, it did not take long before we noticed that something just wasn't right, so once again we raced Wolf up to the hospital. All of Wolf's best doctors were in so that alone gave us hope that she was to get the best care she needed. The latest report came that her white blood cells were in trouble. Needless to say, she had to be re-admitted. They took us in the back to ICU so we could say 'good night' and come back tomorrow....we looked at her and knew in our hearts she would not be coming home, even though the doctors never gave that a thought.

The next morning Dec. 24th, around 8 a.m. we were told the bone marrow test went well, and that Wolf was eating and actually howling a bit. It wasn’t until sometime after noon that  the doctor called to say Wolf wasn't doing well...then the horrible call came that told us Wolf didn't make it.  As a result of the excruciating emotional pain we were about to enter, this poem was written:

Special thanks to Dr. Alicia Henderson and Dr. Linda Dziedzic and their teams who gave Wolf the best care possible during her stay at The Garden State Veterinary Hospital...and to Dr. Meghan Jaskot who was Wolf's regular vet who always showed love and laughter towards Wolf.  Thank you to everyone who prayed for our family during Wolf's illness and after she left us...we really needed those prayers....Thank you.

Good bye our beloved Wolf, you will NEVER be forgotten......
